Exploring the future to transform the now
Speculative Futures Maastricht is a growing community of designers, researchers, and educators using speculative design to address societal challenges. Speculative Futures is a worldwide movement with active chapters in Berlin and Paris. Speculative Futures Maastricht is founded in September 2025.
Speculative Futures Maastricht makes speculative thinking and doing visible in the wider region from Eindhoven, Venlo, to Cologne and Liège. We are building a shared network local, regional and international organizations, designers, and educators working on socially urgent projects in the region, supported by the Resilient Design Practice research group from Zuyd Hogeschool.
Our main goals are:
Strengthening the transnational regional network
Seeding the network with critical futures and alternative solutions
Shifting from short-term thinking to transformative action
In 2025 and 2026, Speculative Futures Maastricht will focus on growing its network, developing communication channels (such as the Substack and Instagram presence), and organizing events. These events will offer space for reflection, imagination, and cross-sectoral dialogue.
